FRONT STREET FOODS: These cactus tacos are where it’s at!

OK, so here’s the deal. Last year, there was this wicked awesome street-food market down at Union Station called Front Street Foods. (There still is a street-food market at Union, but that’s a whole ‘nother story…) Apparently, their contract talks didn’t go so well, so this summer, instead of being on Front Street, Front Street Foods is actually in a courtyard up some stairs off of York and Adelaide. And hey, it’s actually a much nicer space…

Anyways, the market is open every day from now until August, so I’m gonna be spending the rest of this month chowing down on some righteous grub—and bringing you all the details, right here on Triple B.

Now, I dunno what I’d do if my Camaro broke down in the middle of the desert, cuz it wouldn’t be long before the Bud Light in the back isn’t ice cold. But if I had to eat cactus to survive, I could probably get by, cuz it turns out the green stuff is pretty tasty.

There’s no shortage of nopal at Tacos 101, this funky taco stand right by the East entrance of Front Street Foods. This Mexican cactus is grilled up, dressed up and served up with refried beans, diced tomatos, onions, cilantro and cheese inside a taco big enough for two tortillas:

Now, you get a nice crunch here, but not too prickly. A solid salsa verde on top, which goes well with the tomatoes, and the onions add a little extra kick. But man, this cactus stands alone, son! It’s kinda got the texture of green beans, but I’d say it’s a little bit tastier.

Now, I also ordered a chicken taco, but I put too much hot sauce on it, so that kinda sucked. Somebody shouldda told me the orange stuff was, like, liquid lava, esse!
