Beef brisket on a burger @ Marben

Now, it goes without saying that burgers and brisket are two of my favourite things…but when you put one on top of the other, that’s when the magic happens! So, we’re hanging out at Marben, this funky gastropub on Wellington with a not-so-secret speakeasy downstairs. I actually had their famous beef-brisket burger in slider size at Burgermania last year, but now the full-sized version is running wild on you, brother!!!!

OK, so maybe this burger ain’t packing 24-inch pythons — it looks pretty puny in my massive man-mitts… But the flavours are definitely still there. You’ve got an Angus beef patty, cooked to a nice medium-rare, topped with aged cheddar, braised brisket and Branston pickle on a beef-fat brioche bun? Dude, Beef Fat Brioche was my karaoke nickname in college!!!!

Of course, we’re not about to wash down this bad boy with a herbal mint tea! Instead, I chugged a couple of Ochames, a green tea IPA from Burdock. You do get a bit of that smooth tea flavour, with some hazy citrus hoppiness, coming in at just under 7%. I would soooo drink this for breakfast, bro!!!!!!!

Taming the Beast Burger @ Northern Maverick

So, we’re hanging out at Northern Maverick, this funky microbrewery on Bathurst, just a short stumbling distance from Queen Street. Last time I was here, I slayed not one, but two Gosezillas… but this time, I’ve got an even bigger monster in my sights: the Beast Burger!

OK, now let’s break it down. What you’ve got is a dry-aged, ground chuck burger topped with braised beef brisket — dude, this is body by braised beef brisket! — a nice smoked cheese, some chipotle BBQ…and a couple pieces of kale, for that one serving of veggies. Man, this burger is so baller, you can get it medium rare and it won’t even give you Mad Cow Disease, bro!!!!

festbier_oktoberfest_lager (4)

Of course, if we’re hanging out at a craft brewery, then you KNOW I ain’t drinkin’ hard seltzer, bro! This here’s their Festbier, an easy-drinking German Oktoberfest lager that’ll rock you like a hurricane. All that’s missing is Klaus Meine singing “Still Loving You,” son!!!

Bacon burger and a beer for 20 bucks @ Friday Roots and Vibes

Now here’s a Wednesday Night Special that’s after my own heart. We’re hanging out at Friday Roots and Vibes, this funky southern soul food joint on Dundas West, where they’re serving up a double beef brisket bacon cheeseburger, plus a short cold one, for just 20 bucks, bro! Say hello to the Friday Burger:

Dude, this thing is like a Big Mac on steroids! You’ve got two beef brisket patties, a couple slices of cheddar, maybe like one or two bacon strips and a whole lotta lettuce, all swimming in secret sauce. Bro, this burger was so saucy, I was expecting it to get up on stage and do a striptease or something–but instead it ended up going straight down my piehole!!!

friday_red_stripe (2)

Now, here’s the deal with their burger and beer deal, though. You can’t choose any beer on the menu — you only get a stubby of Red Stripe. Man, I didn’t even drink Red Stripe when I was in the Caribbean…but as long as there’s burgers involved, I guess it’s irie, mon!

friday_mud_pie (3)

Of course, you KNOW I still had room for dessert, son! This Mississippi Mud Pie was just chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate… with some whipped cream on top. I easily couldda slammed a slice twice this size though, bro!!!

Beef brisket bacon breakfast burger @ Craft Brasserie

Now, I don’t always get up in time for brunch, but when I heard that Craft Brasserie was smoking their own bacon, curing their own peameal and making a breakfast burger outta beef brisket, I figured I had to come check it out. This Liberty Village basement brewpub has also got 120 craft beer taps, including a whole buncha limited edition special guest beers. So basically, I’m gonna be moving to Liberty Village tomorrow.

Dude, this burger is so far outta bounds, it ran into the stands and took out an ice cream man! You’ve got a nice, thick and juicy brisket patty, topped with smoked Gouda, onion rings and that Bomb.ca bacon. Dude, I would braid that bacon into a flip flop, put it on my feet, walk 5,000 miles, then eat it…and it would still taste good!!!!

bavarian_breakfast_wheat (13)

Of course, one does not go to a funky joint like the Craft Brasserie and order a chocolate milk. So, we’re starting off with this Bavarian Breakfast Wheat beer, a strong Hefeweizen from Silversmith in the Niagara region. It’s a bit like Blanche de Chambly, but a little less fruity, and a lot more alcoholy.

But even after pounding a few of these, I’ve still got room for some liquid dessert. This breakfast stout from Town Brewery, straight outta Whitby, is called Breakfast at Timothy’s. And it’s kinda like drinking coffee…if coffee was a beer.

Beef brisket in burger form, bro!

So we’re hanging out at Aft Kitchen & Bar, this little hole-in-the-wall joint on Queen Street, about a block west of Broadview. This place is about the size of a small condo, but on weekends, they’re kicking out the old school jams—we’re talking the Ramones, The Sweet and Blue Oyster Cult, son! —and doing it up right with some real-deal BBQ. Man, this place has everything: ribs, chicken, brisket…oh yeah, and this super-duper Smokehouse Banquet Burger:

beef_brisket_burger-4

Now, what you’ve got here is an eight-ounce beef-brisket patty, topped with cheddar cheese, double smoked bacon, lettuce, tomato, a couple jalapenos and some pickles on a nicely-toasted egg bun. Y’know, sometimes when you get a brisket burger, it’s like 50-50 brisket to ground beef, or maybe 80-20. But this was nuttin but the brisket, bro! Nice, tender, fall-apart-in-mouthy patty, with a good smoke ring-around-the-rosy. The bacon was super crispy, the bun was nice and fluffy, and the veggies were crispness and delicious. Now, if they could only put some pulled pork on top or something, then that would be the ultimate BBQ burger right there!
