This Fat Sandwich has my name all over it…

So, we’re hanging out in Monticello, NY, a couple hours north of New York City, and about 10 miles from Bethel Woods, where they had the first Woodstock back in 1969. Now, we’ve got a couple hours to kill before a concert, so we’re heading over to Colosseo, this funky litltle Italian joint serving up all kinds of pizza, pasta, cheesesteaks and hoagies. You KNOW this is my kinda place, bro!!!!

We’re starting off with some fried cheese ravioli, coming in hot and crunchy, with oozy cheese and some marinara for dipping. Mamma Mia!!!

But now it’s time for the main event. They call this the Fat Sandwich, and it’s definitely not meant for skinny people. You’ve got fried chicken, mozzarella sticks, French fries, mozzarella cheese, lettuce, onion and tomato, all topped with ranch dressing. Shut the front, back and side doors!!!!!!

The fried chicken is definitely the star of the show here, along with the ranch. Veggies are stacked on top, so you don’t get them in every bite, but the lettuce and onion add a bit of crunch. Man, even the bread is good — a nice, chewy baguette roll. And it’s only 10 bucks, bro!!!!!!!

Now, this might not be an authentic Italian meal, but we’re washing it down with a real-deal Italian beer. Birra Moretti is only 5 bucks at this place, which is about half the price you’d pay in Toronto — so I think I’ll have at least a couple of these…

But you know me, I’ve still got room for dessert, bro! And this is body by chocolate lava cake, so I gotta go with that. It normally comes with vanilla ice cream, but they were all outta vanilla, so they gave me chocolate ice cream instead. No such thing as too much chocolate, son! While the lava seems to be more on top than inside, it’s still nice and warm, especially once you get to the middle.

And you know you’re not in the Big Apple (or the Big Smoke) anymore when this entire meal costs 50 bucks — after tax and tip!!!!

Bison and venison — laissez les bons temps rouler!!!!

So, we’re hanging out at Laissez Faire, this funky, laid back French place at King and Portland. They just changed their menu, so when I saw the bison carpaccio, you KNOW it was heading straight down my piehole, bro!!!

Dude, this dish is too legit to quit! It almost tastes like prosciutto, with a rich, meaty flavour, plus you’ve got little bites of cheese and mushrooms on top. There’s also some asparagus in there — or at least I think that’s why my pee smells funny, bro…

But now it’s time for the main event. This venison tenderloin puts the tender in tenderloin — you can practically pull it apart with your fork. And it comes with mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes, along with a tiny little pitcher of au jus — more than enough to go around, mind you. It looks pretty fancy, but is still fairly reasonable at $32.

Of course, you KNOW we’ve still got room for dessert, bro! Their molten lava cake is full of chocolatey goodness, while the crème brûlée is nice and creamy under the crispy crust. I would sooooo order both of these again!!!!!

SUMMERLICIOUS 2018: Steak AND lobster for 33 bucks, bro!!!!!!!

If you’re looking for the best deal on a real-deal three-course meal at Summerlicious, look no further than Sambucas on Church. Now, at most places, you’re lucky if you get more than three or four entrees to choose from–and even luckier if you can actually find ’em on the regular menu.

But at this funky joint, they’ve got no fewer than 11 Summerlicious mains, and they ain’t holding back, either–filet mignon, rack of lamb, and both steak AND lobster, bro! And did I mention that there’s two other courses, and it’s all just 33 bucks???? Shut the front, back, side, top, rear, port and starboard doors, Sailor Broon!!!!

Now, speaking of the sea, we’re starting off with a whole pile of PEI mussels. These clammas from another mamma are meaty, beaty, big and juicy–there ain’t no Substitute here, son! Then again, a whole buncha mine didn’t open…but I guess that just helped me save more room for steak (and lobster)!

My motto’s always been why settle for one thing when you can eat two things, and this dish definitely doesn’t disappoint, dude! Steak is cooked to a nice medium rare, the lobster tail is nice and chewy, and you’ve got a whole pile of veggies and mashed potatoes…I guess I gotta eat those too, eh?

Now, even though I kinda just ate two meals, you KNOW I’ve still got room for dessert–and there’s no shortage of dessert choices at Sambucas, either! You’ve got creme brulee, truffle cheesecake, and three different kinds of Tartufo–but this here chocolate lava cake has got my name on it:
