Why settle for a pancake burger when you can have a double pancake pork burger???

So, we’re hanging out at Lisa Marie, this funky fresh joint on Queen West. Now, we’ve been here before for some real-deal ribs at Winterlicious, and I also scarfed down some spaghetti and massive meatballs here on Toronto Beer Week…but I’ve heard that they’re really killing it for brunch — and they weren’t kidding — this place was packed, bro!

And lemme tell ya, their menu goes right after my bacon-loving heart. They’ve got steak ‘n eggs ‘n bacon, a peameal bacon sammy, and even something called the bacon explosion benedict — but when I saw the double pancake pork burger, I KNEW it was gonna be love at first bite!!!

OK, now let’s break it down. You’ve got two meaty pork patties, topped with lettuce, tomato and cheese, served between three pancakes with a side of maple syrup. Now, I gotta say, this dish was super messy, even without the extra tree juice. The thin pancakes weren’t really designed to hold together that much meat, and everything was falling apart all over the place… But you KNOW I still ate this all with my hands, bro. Dude, eating a burger with a fork is like a five-year sentence in Flavourtown County Jail!!!

Of course, you can’t have a burger without fries, and these duck fat home fries were like Breakfast Fries Gone Wild! The potaters were hot ‘n crispy, straight from the fryer, with a good crust and a nice grainy mustard smeared on the plate. Not to mention these things are friggin’ huge — pretty sure I’ve seen ducks at High Park that were not as big as these babies!!!

Now, I don’t always drink beer for breakfast, but when I heard they were taking one of my all-time favourite brews, Big Rock Grasshopper, and mixing it with lemonade, well, I figured that pretty much counts as a fruit juice, right? This was actually quite refreshing, like a summer shandy wearing a toque or something… Too bad it was like -4 outside, bro!!!

WINTERLICIOUS 2017: …And then we ate Elvis for dessert!

So, we’re hangin’ out at Lisa Marie, this funkalicious food palace on Queen St West. Man, last time was here, I totally went to town on some meatballs that were so big, I could barely fit ‘em in my mouth! This place is super-legit, so I knew for Winterlicious, they’d be doing it up right…and they definitely didn’t disappoint!

They call these Alabama Tailgaters, and they party harder than a Buffalo Bills fan, bro! What we’ve got here is some beef tenderloin, stuffed with cheese and kim chi, and then wrapped in bacon, son! The beef is nice and tender, the bacon is crispalicious, and then you’ve got these righteous green beans swimming in chili sauce underneath. Pretty sure I could slam seven of these!!!

But the star of the show was the house-smoked ribs. The entire Triple B crew went with the pig bones, and they were on point. Nice, smoky flavour, meat was nice and tender…and then you got a bit of coleslaw and cornbread on the side. At this point, I figured out that the Winterlicious menu does not give you full-sized portions. I mean, this is not much of a dessert, really:

But lemme tell ya, brother, what it lacks in size, it more than makes up in flavour! They call this dish The Elvis, and it’s got brioche French toast, brown-sugar bananas—and bananas are good—peanut butter, whipped cream, and then a little piece of candied bacon on top. It’s like you’re caught in a trap, and you can’t break out, because you’re eating Elvis baby!!!!

TORONTO BEER WEEK: Spaghetti & Meatballs & Beer

So, Monday was International Talk Like a Pirate Day, and it’s too bad I missed it, cuz this local craft brew woulda been aarr-fect. We’re hanging out at Lisa Marie, this funky Queen West joint run by the guy who does the Fidel Gastro food truck. And for Toronto Beer Week, they’re serving up five-dollar pints of Polly Want a Pilsner, this righteous microbrew from Hop City:

Now, I’m a pretty big fan of pilsner beers, and this one is light, crisp and refreshing. And while it’s only five bucks on its own, they had a deal on tonight where it comes with a great big bowl of spaghetti for just 20 bucks combined:

Now those are some massive meatballs, bro! I think these are even bigger than the steak I had last night. The meat-to-pasta ratio of this dish is about three-to-one, just the way I like it. And the balls are cooked perfectly, super rich and delicious. There almost aren’t enough noodles to go with ‘em. But dude, you almost don’t need spaghetti when the meatballs are so outta-bounds. I could eat about eight of these off a flip-flop…and still have room for dessert!
