BIG APPLE BITES: Mac n cheese pancakes? Shut the back door!!!!

So, we’re hanging out at Mom’s Kitchen and Bar, this funky joint at W 48th and 9th serving up all day brunch. This place has got your classics like avocado toast, omelettes and even a pancake burrito… but when I saw the mac n cheese pancakes, you KNOW I had to check em out!

The creamy noodles go great with the fluffy pancake batter, and then you’ve got some extra mac with cheese sauce on top. I paid extra for a side of thick cut bacon, which really kicks it up a notch!

We’re chasing it with a Dad-mosa, bro! You’ve got UFO White beer, peach liqueur and orange juice, served in a 21 oz goblet. OJ and the wheat beer go together nicely, while the peach flavour is a little more subtle. That’ll wake you up in the morning!!!

TORONTO’S TOP TAKEOUT: Build your own blueberry pancakes

Now, one thing I’ve noticed since Second Lockdown is that a lot of restaurants aren’t even open for lunch anymore — never mind breakfast. (So much for Ontario being open for business, bro!) But one place that still opens at 10 a.m. every day, and 9 on the weekends, is Old School, this funky brunch joint on Dundas West. I’ve been here a couple times before, but I’ve never had their most famous dish, the Blueberry Hill Pancakes. That changes now, bro!!!

In this case, there is some assembly required. They give you a four-stack of pancakes, along with containers of syrup, brown-sugar butter and blueberry compote, and then you slather ’em on yourself. I guess things might get a little soggy otherwise, so this makes sense… although my personal pancake stack isn’t as Instagrammable as the ones they serve once indoor dining finally resumes (one of these months). There’s plenty of butter and syrup to go around, but only enough blueberries for two outta four flapjacks. I guess you could just pile everything on top, but it’s kinda hard to cut through four pancakes inside this takeout container…

Now, this dish does include bacon, but they hide it on top of the second pancake, so at first I didn’t see it, and I was like don’t go bacon my heart, Bro-ton John! But then it’s like whoomp, there it is, Bro-g Team! Still, this bacon could be a little more crispy — it’s more raw than cooked, Fine Young Canni-bros!!!!

But hey, at the end of the day, these pancakes is blueberries…and blueberries is good!!!!!!!!

12″ Dutch pancake stuffed with meat? Sounds like a balanced breakfast to me!!!

Last weekend, we were in Edmonton for the Grey Cup, looking for a place to eat a big breakfast before the big game…and we found just the place on Jasper Ave. We’re hanging out at De Dutch, an Edmonton institution and West Coast classic since 1975 putting a Dutch twist on breakfast and lunch. (They’re only open till 3, so ya gotta get there early!) This place specializes in 12″ personal pan pancakes, and they’re serving up a Dutch-Style pannekoek with all the meats:

The Meat Lovers Pannekoek is totally outta bounds, bro! You’ve got Dutch-style back bacon, turkey bacon, ham AND sausage baked right into this thin ‘n fluffy pancake the size of a medium pizza…and then they put tomatoes and Dutch cheese on top!? Dude, this is breakfast, lunch AND dinner—or at least enough food to tide me over till kickoff!
