Riding these Cowboy Beef Short Ribs @ Smoque N’ Bones

Dude, this is body by beef ribs! I once ate beef ribs at Beach Hill Smokehouse AND Adamson Barbecue in the same weekend, and even polished one off with a side of Kitchen Sink Fries. But when I heard that Smoque N’ Bones, this funky little BBQ joint on Queen St, was serving up two Cowboy Beef Short Ribs for 48 bucks, you KNOW I was gonna ride that bucking bronco, bro!!!!!

OK, now let’s break it down. These big, beefy beauties were pull-apart tender, slathered in a tangy sauce — but not too much sauce, hoss! They did give you more sauce on the side, though… Oh, and speaking of sides, their potato salad was so outta bounds, you gotta shut the back door AND buy a ticket!!!!

Now, that’s not a spiky, bleach-blond hairdo on top of those taters — those are Hickory Sticks, the best chips ever!!! This secret ingredient adds a little crunch to this double-barrelled potato attack…and they’ve even got some pulled pork in there, too!

Because you KNOW I’m not gonna walk into a funky joint like Smoque N’ Bones and order a Budweiser…this here’s some Truth Serum, a nice, hoppy IPA from Rorschach Brewing. Not too bitter, with a hit of sweetness, and not one, not two, but three kinds of hops, this brew will have you pass a lie detector with flying colours, son!!!!!!

Maybe pigs can’t fly, but they still got wings…

So, we’re hanging out at Mackies Southern BBQ, this cozy little family-run joint on the ground floor of a house, across the street from a hospital in Frederick, Maryland. This place is known as one of the best BBQ joints in town, but alongside your standard BBQ dishes like beef brisket, pulled pork and ribs, they’re also funking it up with the likes of BBQ nachos, crab cakes and these three little pigs of Flavourtown, the Texas Hog Wild Pork Wings:

Now, these meaty monstrosities come slathered in a BBQ sauce with a nice little kick, and then there’s a side of garlic parm to cool things off. It’s kinda like a cross between a rib and a drumstick, minus the Wet-Naps. And speaking of sides, you get three wings and two sides for just 16 bucks, bro! Me, I went with mac ‘n cheese and potato salad:

The mack daddy was nice ‘n hot, you can tell it wasn’t just sitting around somewhere. A good amount of cheesiness, creamy texture, and a few bites of pepper, for that extra kick.

Potato salad also tasted nice and fresh, not too much mayo — you don’t even need to add raisins, bro!

Now, unfortunately you can’t get beer here, but a nice cold glass of homemade lemonade sure hits the spot!!!

Racking up some ribs @ Cherry St Bar-B-Que

Now, back when Assembly Chef’s Hall first opened, one of the first places I visited was Cherry St Bar-B-Que for some legit beef brisket. But now that it’s summertime, and they’ve got the sweet side patio, with an Airstream trailer serving up craft beer, I’ve come back…this time for some real-deal ribs:

Now, a half rack of these babies will set ya back about 25 bucks, but they’re nice ‘n thick and meaty. Thing is, they aren’t really warm at 7 pm–they cook ’em earlier in the day, and leave ’em under plastic wrap. So the move might be to get ’em to go, and warm ’em up at home. Oh, and you might wanna grab some potato salad, too:

Dude, this Potatopalooza is a slam dunk of funk in Flavourtown! These spuds are all seasoned up Greek style, with a buncha dill, and some purple onions on top. I don’t normally eat salad, but I would eat this off a flip flop!!!!
