In Austin, you can even get real-deal BBQ at the airport…

Now, my flight outta Austin was in the afternoon, which means I got to the airport right around lunchtime. Turns out they have a Salt Lick BBQ joint right in the airport itself — so you KNOW I gotta check it out, bro! And we’re going all in with a three meat plate — brisket, sausage and turkey!!!

Brisket is a little lean for my tastes, but it’s still pretty tender. Better than 90% of the BBQ we get in Canada, put it that way! Plus, they give you like 5 slices, so I can’t complain about that…

Sausage was big n meaty, with a nice snap and good flavour. I would make a flip-flop outta this sausage, bro!!!!

salt_lick_bbq_turkey (4)

But the turkey is the real star of the show. Some of the most moist ‘n juicy bird I’ve ever tasted — if I lived in Texas, I’d eat it for Thanksgiving!!!!

For the side game, they’ve got coleslaw and potato salad on the same side of the container, so you get a bit of cabbage and potato in almost every bite. But the baked beans are what makes it, bro! These kidneys are coming in hot and would go great with chili — cept they don’t put beans in chili here in Texas…

Washed it all down with a Shiner Light Blonde. Cuz I figure I gotta drink at least one of these before leaving town…

Funky French/German sausage feast @ Le Sélect Bistro!

Dude, we’re hanging out at Le Sélect Bistro, this funky French joint just south of downtown Chinatown that’s been cranking it out and dishing it up since 1977 — it’s like the Plastic Bertrand of Flavourtown! And with a brunch menu serving all kinds of French comfort-food classics, you KNOW Ça plane pour moi, bro!!!!

choucroute_alsacienne (9)

This here’s their choucroute garnie a l’Alsacienne, a quadruple pork party from the German border. You’ve got chunks of bacon, pork hock, and not one, but two kinds of sausages — Strasbourg and Montbeliard, served up on a bed of sauerkraut. But the housemade dijon mustard is what makes it!!!!!!!

Bro, I would sooo put that on a flip-flop! And of course, because it’s 5 o’clock in France, we’re washing it down with a Belgian beer:

Now, any beer with both “Grim” and “Bergen” in its name and you know it’s gonna be evil! I first had this double amber at Bodega, and it actually went down a bit smoother this time… A couple more of these and I’d be on my way to kill Euronymous!!!

Of course, even after scarfing down four kinds of pork and practically a pound of sauerkraut, you KNOW I still had room for dessert. This mini dark chocolate mousse was topped with fresh berries and served with a passionfruit cookie — so at least I got one serving of fruit today.

I’m about to smash some bangers and mash!!!

Now, when the weather’s tip-top, there’s nothing I like more than nipping out for a cheeky pint…or at least, that’s what my British cousin might say. But when it comes to real-deal, authentic English pubs in Toronto, the Elephant & Castle is where it’s at! They’ve got a couple in this city, one on Yonge, and one on King, where there’s serving up a whole buncha British pub classics, like these smashing beauties, bangers and mash:

Dude, this sausage party is heading straight down my piehole, bro! You’ve got some hot ‘n juicy sausage that’s equal parts Polish and breakfast, with garlic mashed potaters and a rich beef gravy. This dish is so dope, Russell Brand even wrote a song about it:

Of course, you can’t slam some Bomb.co.uk bangers without a pint of Guinness, innit? This one’s poured pretty much perfectly:
